Sarama Resources progress exploration in Burkina Faso with Cube Consulting
Sarama Resources Ltd (TSX-V: SWA) is a West African focused gold explorer with substantial landholdings in Burkina Faso, Liberia and Mali.
Sarama’s flagship properties are situated within the Company’s South Houndé Project area in south-west Burkina Faso. Located within the prolific Houndé greenstone belt, Sarama’s exploration programs have built on significant early success to deliver a maiden Inferred Mineral Resource estimate of 1.5 Moz gold. Outside of Burkina Faso, Sarama is focused on consolidating a number of under-explored landholdings in other emerging and established mining jurisdictions.
Prior to Sarama Resources’ listing on the TSX in late 2011, the company had acquired a number of properties in Burkina Faso, Liberia and Mali. As part of the listing requirements, Sarama required an independent technical expert to act as a Qualified Person (QP) under the NI43-101 guidelines. The requirement for the QP was to verify that Sarama’s principal exploration properties in Burkina Faso had sufficient geological merit to justify using proceeds of the initial public offering for exploration.
Once the company was listed, Sarama achieved considerable early-stage exploration success, leading to the identification of regionally significant mineralised trends. After completing reconnaissance and step-out drilling, the company engaged Cube to interpret the results and provide early guidance on geological and structural features controlling the mineralisation. The integration of multiple exploration datasets was required to develop a broad geological framework to support deposit-scale interpretation. Sarama required the early working model in order to focus exploration efforts with a view to producing a maiden mineral resource of significance in a short timeframe.
Sarama engaged Cube Consulting to act as an independent QP and compile the technical report required for exchange listing and following early exploration success, the company commissioned Cube to compile the maiden mineral resource estimate for the South Houndé Project. In addition to these two milestone work projects, Cube also act on an ongoing basis providing exploration, project geology and general technical advice to Sarama particularly with the geological modelling, data validation and exploration strategy. Paul Schmiede, VP Corporate Development for Sarama, had worked with Cube previously and had taken what was the largest undeveloped gold deposit in continental Africa at the time from exploration through several phases of feasibility studies. He was confident Cube would continue to do a quality job for Sarama.
The Cube team helped Sarama to put all the exploration results together holistically, building robust, geologically driven, mineralisation and structural models which enhanced the Sarama’s understanding of the deposit, leading to better targeted drilling campaigns and insights into the structural architecture of the regional project area.
Broad experience and knowledge in the Cube team adds value from exploration through to resource modelling.
